If you like books by independent authors, you’ll want to check out MenilFest taking place April 18th at the Menil Collection. You can discover lots of “indie” books and have a chance to discover new authors. The Houston Center for Photography is participating as well; they’re holding their student photo sale the same day.

Over at the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft, the Dining and Discourse exhibition is on display through May 10th. Nearby at the Lawndale Art Center, they’re getting ready to showcase their annual Design Fair on April 20th through 26th.

It’s crawfish season. The Houston Museum of African American Culture is hosting a community crawfish boil on April 24th.

Be sure to check out “Texas Czechs”, an exhibition about Czech immigration to Texas on display at the Czech Center Museum, now through April 25th.

The Jung Center Houston has opened up a new art show called “Dialogue with Imaginary Viewers.” At the nearby Contemporary Art Museum Houston, their new exhibition “Pretty/Dirty” opens on April 17th. Don’t miss an opportunity to see the Rubens display at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston. It closes on May 10th.

Last but not least, you’ll want to check out what’s happening across the street from Dr. Brewton’s office. The Japan Festival will take place on April 18 and 19th in Hermann Park. This is also a great opportunity check out the new McGovern Centennial gardens.
