An invitation from Gary Brewton for my Ordination Ceremony December 14, 2013
December 14 marks the official end of my preparation for ministry. On that day, I will be ordained a priest in the Orthodox Catholic Church (OCC) by Donna du Bois, the Bishop of Texas, and Troy Treash, the senior pastor at Resurrection MCC. The OCC traces its roots back to ancient churches, but the OCC is not dogmatic. We recognize the validity of other religious traditions and firmly believe that we can learn and grow more fully by understanding and respecting their teachings. The leaders of the OCC are male and female, GLBT and straight.
Although I have returned to the practice of medicine full time, being a priest will enhance my ability to care for all my patients regardless of what or whether they believe. Healing — which comes both from competence and compassion — is both what I do and what I teach.
I am grateful for your support while I was away in seminary. You are invited to join the celebration of my ordination. The service is at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, December 14, at Bering Memorial United Methodist Church, 1440 Harold Street, Houston, Texas. (Map)
